Policeman killed

Unidentified armed youths shot and killed a policeman at a sentry post in Kattankudy, about 8 km. south of Batticaloa around 2.30 p.m. Tuesday security sources said.

A civilian who was travelling in a van was wounded in retaliatory fire by policemen at the sentry post.

The attackers who had arrived at the scene on a motor-cycle escaped unhurt, the sources said.
