Policeman shot dead in Vavuniya

A military trained policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Police Sector II at the 7th mile Post along Vavniya-Mannar road at 5.30 p.m. Sunday, said police sources.

According to the sources, the policeman was on a road clearing mission along with his colleagues. He was shot at when the police patrol had tried to check two persons who were behaving in a suspicious manner.

The dead policeman was identified as M.M.G.Sumanasiri (30), of Ampara district. His body was handed over to Vavuniya hospital.
