Tigers shell SLN supply reservoir, two killed

Two Sri Lanka Navy ratings were killed and one injured in a mortar attack by the Liberation Tigers on Kalmuttiyaankulam, 16 kilometres west of Trincomalee, Friday morning around 10 a.m. Kalmuttyaankulam is a reservoir under the control of the SLN. It is the main water supply to the SLN's eastern command in Trincomalee.

It is the main water supply to the SLN's eastern command in Trincomalee. The SLN has a small detachment at Kalmuttiyaankulam to guard the water supply reservoir. The detachment is in the interior, two kilometres off the Trincomalee-Kandy highway in Palampattaaru. Kalmuttiyaankulam was the main water supply reservoir to the Trincomalee town earlier. The town is now supplied from the Kantalai tank (reservoir).
