SLA says shot men were robbers[TamilNet, Wednesday, 21 January 1998, 23:59 GMT]The Sri Lankan army in Jaffna claimed today that they shot dead two persons suspected to be robbers last night in Aanaikoddai, behind Thaavady and near the Perumal Kovil in Jaffna town. The identity of the two persons has not been established said sources in Jaffna. The bodies were handed over to the Jaffna general hospital today. The army says that it shot the person killed near Perumal Kovil just after midnight. Meanwhile, a civilian identified as Kaasi Thangarajah, 47, lost his right leg when he stepped on an anti-personnel land mine today by the Chunnakam market today.
