MP calls for camp removal, opening of road[TamilNet, Tuesday, 12 November 2002, 01:55 GMT]Selvam Adaikalanathan, Member of Parliament (MP) of the Vanni district, appealed to the Minister of Interior, Mr John Amaratunge, to remove the army detachment camped at the road leading to Kunjukulam village from the Mannar-Madawachchi road, sources said. The access road to villages of Matha and Kunjukulam which lie 10 miles from the main highway has been closed to civilian traffic by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA). Villagers are forced to use longer circuitous routes through jungles get provisions for their daily living and to attend to their water needs. The MP has written to the Minister to use his authority to remove the SLA camp so that the road can be opened easing the transport burden on the villagers.
