SLA officer killed and 41 injured - VoT

The Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its night broadcast today that one Sri Lankan Army officer was killed and 41, including 2 officers, were wounded this morning in shelling by the Liberation Tigers on troops of Operation Jaya Sukurui, who are fighting to advance toward Mankulam.

The radio also gave the names of LTTE fighters who were killed in the fighting yesterday.

2. Samarveeran (Chithiravel Sasikumar, Trincomalee)

3. Pulanathan (Kanapathipillai Sathiyeswaran, Batticaloa)

4. Venko (Manium Mahenthiran, Kilinochchi)

Maj. Piriyanthe Ranasinghe of the Sri Lankan Army's artillery regiment was killed in the latest fighting, said SLA sources in Vavuniya.

Meanwhile Kfir jets and Mi-24 helicopter gunships have indiscriminately bombed and attacked Pooneryn today, said the radio.

One civilian was killed and another wounded in the SLAF's attack on Pooneryn today, the radio said. Civilians in the area are moving as the result of this attack, radio said further.
