Home Guard shot dead in Thampalakamam

Mr.Dayananda, a Home Guard of the Sr Lanka Police was shot dead by an unidentified gunman Saturday night around 7.30 p.m. at Potkerny, a suburb in Thampalakamam village located about twenty two km off southwest of Trincomalee town on Trincomalee-Kandy high way, Police said.

The deceased had been working under the Thampalakamam Police. He was also working as intelligence operative for the police in Thampalakamam, sources said.

On 14th July Mr.Ranjit Lokkuhettige, the Officer-in -Charge (OIC) of Thampalakamam Police post was shot and seriously injured by unidentified gunmen at Potkerny when he was returning to police post in a motorbike after physical exercise.

Saturday shooting incident took place at the same site where the OIC was shot, Police said.
