Accident victims die

A civilian who was injured when a Sri Lankan Police pickup truck hit his bicycle in Polihandy, a coastal village between Valvettithurai and Pt.Pedro in Vadamaradchi in Jaffna, on Saturday December 19 succumbed to his wounds today at the Jaffna hospital.
Everita Anton Jeyaraj who was hit by the Police vehicle is the father of two children and was displaced from Palaly in 1990 and was living in Polihandy. Meanwhile a soldier who was accused of knocking down an old man with his SLA tractor on Sunday December 20 in Alavetty in Jaffna was released on bail for 3000 rupees (approximately 45 US $) today by the Mallakam magistrate M.Sabanathan. The old man, P.Sellaih of Mallakam, died on the spot when an SLA tractor hit his bicycle at Maasikappitty in Alavetty. Civilians in Jaffna have complained on several occasions that security forces vehicles are driven at breakneck speeds in populated parts of the peninsula.
