Clashes near Nagarkovil

Sri Lanka Army soldiers and Liberation Tigers clashed in the Vadamaradchi East sector on the north-eastern coast of the Jaffna peninsula in the early hours of Wednesday, security and civilian sources said.
Clashes occured near Nagathambiran kovil area, which connects Nagarkovil sea beach SLA camp and Eluthumadduval on the Thenmaradchi sector. Details of casualties are not known. Civilians sources said SLA casualties were evacuated by helicopters, and some were transported by ambulence to Palaly SLA base. In a separate incident a suspected LTTE member committed suicide when SLA soldiers raided a house at Panakattikottu village in the Mannar district around 9 a.m. Monday morning, police said. SLA sources said troops raided the house on a tip-off that it was used by the Tigers. Acting District Judge of Mannar Mr.E.Kayas Feldano visited the scene and instructed the Police to hand over the body of the youth to the Mannar base hospital for a post-mortem.
