De-mining Awareness Exhibition in Jaffna

The first De-mining Awareness Exhibition in Jaffna district for school students and public was declared open by UNICEF official Mr.B.Hanock at Chavakachcheri Hindu College in Jaffna district Monday morning. UNICEF and the Save the Children in Sri Lanka sponsored this exhibition organized by the Jaffna Children's Clubs Consortium, sources said.

| Participating as the chief guest UNICEF official Mr.Harnock said the UNICE would provide all assistance to expedite de-mining activities in Jaffna district and to ensure safety of the people. At present de-mining activities in the district are taking place not speedily, he said. President of the Jaffna Children's Clubs Consortium, Ms S.Tharmila presided. UNICEF official Mr.Harnock further said equal importance should be given to de-mining activities in Jaffna district on par with development works. He commended children's contribution regarding de-mining activities in the district. Sri Lanka's Save the Children Organization head office representative Mr.S. Lakshman also participated in the event. A series of similar exhibition are to be held in several places in the Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna district, the sources said. |
