The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Friday said elements that had been responsible for the recent clash in Mutur are now involved in creating ethnic tension in Kinniya division between Tamils and Muslims. The LTTE Trincomalee district political secretariat Friday issued a statement appealing to both communities to maintain patience and to understand the truth behind the current tension in Kinniya.
The full text of the statement is given below: - "Tamils and Muslims lived as members of one family and there was mutual understanding between them. "Today some evil forces are bent on derailing current mutual understanding and creating ethnic tension between the two communities. "The evil forces that were responsible for the clashes between Tamil and Muslims in Muttur have been actively engaged in creating ethnic tension in Kinniya division. "We recently initiated a dialogue with the Muslim civil representatives of Kinniya to promote better understanding between communities thereby removing all disagreements that existed on important issues. Politicians who do not like such moves are now bent on creating problems between the two communities to meet their own political ends. "Hence we appeal to both communities to maintain patience and to understand the truth behind the current tension in Kinniya. They should also work jointly to promote healthy understanding and relationship between communities."
