Mr. Silva, addressing the public council meeting, said, “Today our party submits to the nation this national program to build up the country and safeguard the country against the policy of United National Front (UNF) government, which would divide the country. At this time, we have not given priority to the socialist struggle, because before the socialist struggle we want to keep the country undivided." “The JVP first decided to produce the National
Program jointly with the Sri Lanka Fredom Party (SLFP) and then together form an alliance. But after the collapse of the alliance discussions with SLFP, we decided to submit our national program to the people,” said Mr. Silva. The JVP sold its national program as a book priced at Rs.50 at the entrance of the open theater at the Viharamahadevi Park.
