Police interrogate girl over convoy attack

The Sri Lankan Police in Trincomalee is interrogating a girl working in the accounts department of the Naval base in the eastern port whom it has accused of passing information to the Liberation Tigers about the SLN convoy which was attacked by the Sea Tigers last Sunday.
The girl, Maalini Subramaniam, was arrested last Wednesday by the Trincomalee Police on a tip off from an LTTE suspect in their custody said defence sources. But a well informed member of an ex-Tamil militant group operating in Trincomalee dismissed the claims of the Police, saying that she was naturally suspect because she was a Tamil working in a sensitive position. He pointed out that Maalini Subramaniam has been working in the Navy's accounts section for more than three years. He was of the opinion that someone working with her could have petitioned the Police that she had links with the LTTE which, he said, is not an uncommon occurrence in Sri Lankan government offices.
