Urgent pleas over Tellippalai hospital

The North Waligamam Rehabilitation Society, an NGO, has requested the Ministry of Health to provide urgently needed facilities to the Tellippalai Government Hospital, which was recently re-established at Tellippalai, said sources in Jaffna.

The Hospital was moved to Maanippay around 1996, when the Sri Lanka Army expanded the high security zone around its Palaly base.

Though the Hospital was re-established at Tellippalai three months ago, only the buildings exist. Even basic requirements such as sufficient beds, ECG or x-ray facilities are not available.

The rehabilitation society has requested the Ministry to provide at least basic facilities such as a maternity ward, said sources.
