The Liberation Tigers released three members of the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) who had been in their custody this morning around 9 a.m. in the Vanni. The EPDP cadres had been released on humanitarian grounds on orders from the LTTE leader Veluppillai Prabhahran.
They were handed over to the ICRC soon after their release. The ICRC will take them to their relatives said sources. The EPDP cadres who were released today by the LTTE are Raveendran Muraleetharan, 22, of Pandiruppu, Angamuththu Thangeswaran or Paari, 20, of kandy and Uadayar Sivam, 21, of India. No details of when and where the LTTE had arrested these EPDP cadres were known. EPDP cadres operate with the Sri Lankan Army in an anti LTTE role. The group also controls the islands off Jaffna, which the SLA captured in 1990.
