Sri Lanka Police officer kills own children, commits suicide

A Sri Lanka Police officer in charge of the police sentry at Thamana in the Amparai district on Monday shot dead his two children and committed suicide by shooting himself, sources said.

Two days ago, the officer had gone home for the weekend, and at noon Monday had brought his two children with him to the sentry post. He killed his children and committed suicide within a short time, the sources said.

The reason for the officer’s murder-suicide is not known, but the Police suspect family disputes. The Eastern Province Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) has ordered immediate inquiry and sent a special police team for the inquiry, police sources said.
