U.S. Ambassador declares open USAID office in Kalmunai

The Ambassador of the United States for Sri Lanka, Mr. Jeffrey Lunstead, declared open the Kalmunai office of the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) Tuesday, sources said.

The USAID has been assisting fishermen on the Eastern coast, from Pottuvil in the Amparai district to Batticaloa. To further its operations, the aid organization has constructed its office in Kalmunai, which the Ambassador declared open.

“In the current environment of peace, the USAID is assisting fishermen in rebuilding their lives. In the last 20 years, the fishermen in Batticaloa-Amparai have been facing several hardships and their standard of living should be raised,” said Mr. Lunstead.
