The Eelam Peoples' Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) has requested Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga and the Governor of the North-East Province Council (NEPC) Mr. Gamini Fonseka, to intervene in the Palaly SLAF base expansion project in Waligamam to compensate residents of the area who lost their properties due to their lands being taken over for the project, said sources in Jaffna.
The EPRLF raised the matter in a letter under the hand of party's Jaffna organiser Subaththran. The letter states that the Sri Lankan Government has not even bothered to do a valuation of the land and properties that residents of the area lost. The party has also protested about the brewing of kasippu (moonshine) by unscrupulous persons in the peninsula, in connivance with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA). The letter goes on to state that buildings occupied by the SLA in the Vadamaradchi and Thenmaradchi areas in the Jaffna peninsula should be returned to its rightful owners.
