Uthayan editorial raises language issue

Uthayan, the only Tamil daily published in Jaffna now wrote a very strong editorial today, strongly criticising the failure of the Sri Lankan Police in Jaffna to take complaints in Tamil.
Uthayan editorial said that various problems and contradictions rise today in the conduct of judiciary affairs in Jaffna, as language in courts is Tamil and language in which the Sri Lankan Police takes down complaints from the public is in another language (Sinhalese). The editorial was written in connection with the meeting between the Jaffna lawyers and the Civil Affairs Co-ordinating Officer (CACO), Brig. Tilekeratne. Lawyers have taken up the issue of registering complaints in Tamil in Sri Lankan Police stations in the Jaffna peninsula. Uthayan editorial strongly emphasised that in the Tamil regions every thing should be conducted in Tamil. "There cannot be any exceptions to this", asserted the editorial.
