Representatives of civil groups in the Jaffna peninsula are to meet Wednesday at Nallur Navalar Cultural Hall to launch a campaign to collect signatures for a memorandum stressing the urgency to restart the stalled peace process by
bringing the current political crisis in the south to an end early and to take action to hand over the interim administrative structure to the Liberation Tigers as proposed in the ISGA, sources said.
The Jaffna Civil Groups plan to send the memorandum to members of diplomatic community and to foreign institutions that promote peace, according to sources. Jaffna University Students Federation jointly with other civil groups has been organizing the signature campaign. The organizing committee is also consulting the intelligentsia of the peninsula for its campaign, sources said. A decision to this effect was taken at the last Tamil Resurgence (Pongu Thamil) convention held in Jaffna. According to that decision memoranda
should be sent to the United Nations and other world organizations regarding current political situation in the country and especially of the northeast province, sources said.
