Members of the Mohan Group of the Peoples' Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), which now operates as a para-military organisation of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Batticaloa, have been indulging in drunkenness and misbehaviour at night in the suburbs of Batticaloa for the past two weeks, said sources in Batticaloa.
Reports coming from Seythukkudah, Puthoor and Thimilatheevu state that this nine member gang, led by Thambi (Balakumar), have extorted money and have attempted to molest women. Sources said that Thambi had had a love affair with a woman of the area who has a child by him. But the woman later married another person. Thambi had entered the home of this woman forcibly last week , said sources. The woman was not identified. No complaints have been made by the public against this gang through fear of reprisals, said sources.
