Kadirgamar, Jayaratne appointed ministers

Sri Lanka's President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunge, who Saturday dissolved parliament through an Extraordinary Gazette notification, has appointed two senior parliamentarians of her People's Alliance, Mr.Lakshman Kadirgamar and Mr.D.M.Jayaratne, as ministers with immediate effect, the Presidential Secretariat said in a press release Sunday.
Mr.Kadirgamar is Minister for Information
and Daily Communication and Mr.Jayaratne is Minister for Posts and Mass Communication. They were sworn in by President Kumaratunge Saturday night at the
Presidential Secretariat, the press release added. The two were not elected to parliament in the regular elections but were appointed in the PA's national list. According to Mr. Janadasa Peiris, media advisor to the President, there is no change affecting the Prime Minister, Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, and his cabinet of ministers, who will continue to be part of the caretaker government.
