Moragoda resigns from the UNF cabinet

Mr.Milinda Moragoda, a senior minister in the United National Front government of Sri Lanka and a key member of the UNF team in peace talks with the Liberation Tigers, Wednesday submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe, sources said.

Mr. Moragoda thanked the Prime Minister for having confidence in him for the last two years. Mr.Moragoda's resignation came after the President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunge, sacked 27 non-cabinet rank ministers and 12 deputy ministers from the UNF government, sources said

Mr. Moragoda has played a vital role at the beginning of peace talks between the UNF government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. He is a confidante of Mr.Wickremasinghe.
