TULF leaders appeal over leadership challenge

Tamil United Liberation Front's Secretary General Mr.R.Sampanthan and Senior Vice President Mr.Jospeh Pararajasingham Monday filed a petition in the Court of Appeal, seeking to vacate the interim injunction order issued
on them by the Colombo District Judge on an action instituted by the TULF President, Mr. V.Anandasangaree, stating that it was illegal and contrary to the law, legal sources said.
Until the inquiry into their petition is concluded, Mr.Sampanthan and Mr. Pararajasingham have asked the Court of Appeal to issue a stay order, restraining the District Court from implementing its interim injunction, legal sources said. Earlier in December last year, the Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order, preventing Mr.Sampanthan and Mr.Joseph Pararajasingham from convening party meetings without Mr.Anandasangaree permission. Later on
February 11 the Colombo District Court extended it as an interim injunction order and put off the hearing on Mr.Anandasangaree's application for March
16, sources said. Since then, the rank and file of the TULF has been in a quandary to map out an election strategy and to use its election symbol "Rising Sun" in the
forthcoming general election, party sources said.
