The appeal filed by the rival faction of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) on the interim injunction order issued by the Colombo District Court last year restraining it from claiming the key posts of the party was fixed for hearing on May 24, legal sources said.
In the power struggle within SLMC last year, rival group elected Messrs. S.Subairdeen, A.L.M. Athaullah, A.L.M.Haffrath, A Uthumalebbe and
A.J.M.Mussamil for the posts of President, Chairman, Secretary General,
Senior Vice President and National Organizer of the SLMC respectively. SLMC leader and Minister Mr.Rauff Hakim immediately filed a petition in the
Colombo District Court and obtained an interim injunction order against the
rival group restraining them claiming key posts of the party. The rival group filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking the court
to order vacating the interim injunction issued by the Colombo District
Court. The appeal came up for inquiry before the Appeal Court Tuesday.
After inquiry the Appeal Court fixed the inquiry into the appeal for May
24, legal sources said. The SLMC led by Mr.Rauff Hakim would be able to field candidates under the
SLMC ticket and with election symbol "Tree," political sources said.
