Sinhala groups first to file nominations in Jaffna, Vavuniya

Ruhunu Janatha Party, a little known party from Sri Lanka's southern province, was the first on Thursday to file nominations to contest elections in Jaffna in April. All candidates of the party on its Jaffna nomination list, including three women are Sinhalese. Meanwhile in Vavuniya, the Ultra nationalist Sinhala Maha Sammatta Bhoomi Putra Part was the first to file nominations at 2.30 p.m. Thursday.

The fourth candidate on the Bhoomi Putra Party's list of candidates in Vavuniya is Mr. S. Selvakumar, a Tamil. An independent group led by Mr. A. K Sahabdeen also filed nominations in Vavuniya later in the day. The chief candidate of the Bhoomi Putra Party in Vavuniya is Mr. Ajantha Upendra Perera.
