Police provides protection to Vavuniya candidates

Vavuniya Police Friday started providing security protection to candidates of political parties on their request. Two police personnel are deployed to provide protection to each candidate, said Vavuniya Police Headquarters Inspector Mr.R.M.Wijenayake.

Candidates of Peoples Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP), United National Party (UNP), and United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) have obtained police protection, he said.

Mr. Wijenayake said protection would be given to independent candidates if they needed.

EPDP party activists Friday were seen in the Vavuniya town distributing election pamphlets to members of the public surrounded by police security, civil sources said.
