PMG urged re-open Point Pedro post office

Jaffna District Superintendent of Post Offices Mr.S.Sivarajasingham appealed to the Post Master General (PMG) to take steps to relocate the Point Pedro General Post Office (GPO) in its own building located in the high security zone. The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is occupying the post office buildings, sources said.
Currently the Point Pedro post office has been functioning in a private building outside the high security zone, sources said. Mr.Sivarajasingham made this request when the PMG visited Jaffna recently.
The PMG has promised to take up this matter with the defense ministry
shortly, sources said. Though funds have been allocated for the re-opening of Point Pedro post
office, the army has not shown any interest in handing over the buildings to
the Department of Post Offices, sources said. However the army has allowed the Point Pedro co-operative society to
function in its own building which is also located in the high security
zone, sources said.
