Amparai district former Tamil National Alliance (TNA)parliamentarian Mr. A.Chandra Nehru Thursday issued a statement denying a report carried by State controlled Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) saying that he participated in a demonstration burning the effigy of LTTE leader Mr.Pirapaharan, sources in Amparai said.
"I carried a placard stating that our National Leader Mr.Pirapaharan and Area Commander Karuna should join hands. But the SLRC in its news bulletin showed a video clip that I was present in the procession that burned the
effigy. No such thing took place in Thirukovil on that day in my presence. The irresponsible action of the SLRC has caused pain of mind and tarnished my image in the public," said Mr. Chandra Nehru in his statement. People of Batticaloa and Amparai district have been reeling because of a crisis. Under this circumstances the State controlled media organizations, under the control of Sri Lanka's President, are attempting to exploit the situation with false reports, the statement said. "The LTTE leader and Karuna Amman should join hands to foil the attempt by the State media organizations to create divisions within the Tamil community. This is my wish," said Mr.Chandra Nehru in his statement.
