The Trincomalee Rotary Club last weekend conducted a one-day medical clinic in the village Nallur which is located in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam held Muttur east in the Trincomalee district. Rotarian Dr.G.Gnanagunalan organized this clinic with the assistance of Humanitarian Rehabilitation Services of NE (Lanka) Ltd, Colombo, that provided thirty thousand rupees worth of medicine to the clinic, sources said.

The medical team comprised four medial officers and two dispensers. Six Rotarians led by Trincomalee Rotary Club President Mr.R.Rajarammohan, Chairman of the Trincomalee Non-Governmental Organizations Consortium Mr.T.Thavasilingam and Rotary Annes participated in the event, sources said.

People from Pattalipuram, Nallur, Malamunthal, Uppural and Cheenenveli attended the clinic. About 250 patients were provided with medicines for various ailments. Elderly patients were subjected to blood and urine checks for diabetes and other ailments, Rotary sources said.

Mr.T.Thavasilingam, a group of Rotarians and NGO’s representatives visited the villages Uppural and Cheenenveli and found the resettled internally displaced families from Vanni have not been provided with their rations and other government assistance.

Residents told Mr.Thavasilingam that the Grama Sevaka (village level) Officer has not visited their villages for more than six months and they could not locate him in the Seruvila Divisional Office where he is attached, sources said.

Villagers requested Mr.Thavasilingam to take steps to appoint a Tamil GS officer to their areas and to take steps to bring Uppural and Cheenenveli villages with the administrative limit of the Eachchilampathu division.

Currently the two villages are under the administration of the Sinhala dominated Seruvila Divisional Secretary, sources said.

On witnessing the poor living condition prevailing in the area, visiting medical officials assured the villagers that they will again visit their area to provide medical and other humanitarian assistance to them, sources said.
