Millennium scholarships awards ceremony to be held in Trinco

Twice postponed Millennium Presidential special scholarship awards ceremony for students in the NorthEast province is to take place on March 24th morning at Trincomalee St.Mary’s Girls College auditorium. Provincial Education Ministry is organizing the event, sources said.

Provincial Governor Major General (retd) Asoka Jayawardene will be the chief guest for the event.

President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge to participate in the earlier events to present the awards to students, sources said.

The number of eligible recipients of Special Millennium Presidential Scholarship Awards for the year 2001 among the GCE A/L students is 1,384 and the number of eligible students for those having studied in Grade 6 to 11 is 2,737, according to education officials.

However, only 72 students in GCE A/L category and 123 in Grade Six to Grade 11 category will be awarded the scholarships on March 24 event.

Scholarships to other qualified students would be awarded later through zonal education offices in their regions, sources said.
