TRO gives financial assistance to Trinco pre-school teachers

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) Tuesday inaugurated a scheme to provide monthly financial assistance to fifty-two pre-school teachers serving in the Trincomalee district, TRO officials said. Pre-schools in the northeast have been administered by the Pre-School Education Development Centre (PSEDC), which has its headquarters in Killinochchi.

TRO Trincomalee district project officer Mr.V.Kalaivarnan presided. Ms Jeya Thambiah of the Provincial Ministry of Education who is in charge of the pre-school activities in the northeast participated as the chief guest. TRO Trincomalee district Director Mr.K.Mathavarajah said with the assistance of the TRO Executive Director they had started a scheme to pay pre-school teachers in the Trincomalee district. These teachers upto now served without any payment. TRO Executive Director should be thanked for
formulating a scheme to pay these teachers, Mr.Mathavarajah said.

Ms Jeya Thambiah said 2783 pre-schools have been functioning in the northeast province with about 4800 teachers. About 73 thousand children have been attending these schools. Majority of the pre-school teachers have not been paid. It is heartening to note that the Trincomalee TRO has taken steps to implement a payment scheme to pre-school teachers in the district. She appealed to pre-school teachers to enhance their academic qualification to ensure their future in the profession.
