The Sri Lanka Navy Monday denied its involvement in the intimidation of LTTE political activists recently in the Puliyankoodal area in Kayts division in the Jaffna district. The SLN's denial came in a response to a complaint by the LTTE's Jaffna district political secretariat with the Jaffna regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL), sources said
Mr.C. Ilamparithi, Jaffna district LTTE head, said in his complaint that a group of activists of the Eelam Peoples' Democratic Front (EPDP), led by former
Member of Parliament Mr.N. Mathanarajah and assisted by members of the Sri Lanka Navy and police, had threatened and intimidated LTTE members who were engaged in political activities in Puliyankoodal area. Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Police made their responses to the Jaffna office of the HRCSL when its regional co-ordinator commenced his investigation into the complaint. The SLN had denied any involvement in the incident. The Kayts Police Officer-in-Charge had told the HRCSL that his men were not involved in that incident. However he had informed HRCSL that Mr.Mathanarajah made a counter
complaint against the LTTE in regard to the Puliyankoodal incident, sources said.
