Karuna cadres arrested with weapons in Batticaloa town

The Batticaloa Magistrate Mr.A.J.M.Ajmeer Wednesday ordered remand till April 14 for four persons who are said to be cadres of Mr. Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan (Karuna), renegade commander of the LTTE when they were produced in court on a report that they were taken into custody for possession of dangerous weapons, legal sources said.
According to report the Kattankudy Police had intercepted a blue color Dolphin van speeding from Batticaloa near the Manchanthoduvai Technical College and recovered weapons and ammunition which included T 56 live bullets, one T 56 magazine, 07 hand grenades, 93 SKG bombs and several other weapons. The police produced the van with weapons in court Wednesday. The Police took into custody four persons, Kanapathipillai Mahendran alias Sachchu Master, Samithamby Rajan alias Mayuran, Velapody Varathakumar alias Manohar, Arasamani Suresh alias Guruparan alias Ketheeswaran who were travelling in the van at that time, legal sources said. The Police told court that according to information they received the suspects were on their way to commit criminal offences. The Police further brought to the notice of the court that they have received information on the movements of several persons with dangerous weapons in the government-controlled area, legal sources said.
