EPDP Pungudutivu office burnt down by residents

A political office of the para military Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) located in Perunkattu junction in the Pungudutivu village was burnt down on Saturday night allegedly by residents of the area. The office was functioning in the area with the security provided by the Sri Lanka Army and the Police, sources said.

EPDP officials who were in the office at that time fled from the area when a group of residents started attacking the office first by stones, sources said.

Residents said that they made complaints to the police about the harassment meted out by EPDP activists. As the police turned blind eye to their complaints, the office was burnt down Saturday night, civil sources said.
