The Jaffna office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Sunday received a complaint that the paramilitary Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) activists at gunpoint had intimidated the political head of the Liberation Tigers in the Islands, Mr.C.Arunthavam, and his associates, sources said.
According to the complaint, a group of EPDP cadres had intercepted a team of LTTE political activists on Saturday night when they were travelling through Naranthanai and threatened them. At that time EPDP cadres were armed
with rifles and were provided protection by the Sri Lanka Police. Residents of the area held a one-hour protest at Naranthanai junction against the EPDP action. Residents shouted slogans against the Police for not taking any action against EPDP activists when they threatened LTTE political cadres with arms, sources said.
