An unidentified youth was found dead with gunshot injuries on his head in the Karuvakerny area of Valaichenai in the Batticaloa district, Valaichenai police said Thursday.

According to the police, the youth might have been shot dead Wednesday night at about 8:30 p.m., and the youth appeared to be about 28 years old.

Meanwhile, another youth who was shot and injured in an incident in the Kiran area on Tuesday night at about 11:35 p.m. and was admitted to the Batticaloa teaching hospital for treatment has left the hospital without notifying the authorities, according to the director of the hospital, Dr. Devarajan.
