Auto-rickshaw drivers demonstrate

More than three hundred auto-rickshaw drivers demonstrated in front of the PLOTE office in Trincomalee town today demanding the immediate release of one of their colleagues who had been abducted by the organisation on March 21. The PLOTE had locked up its office as the drivers were demonstrating outside.

Later, according to Police sources in Trincomalee the Sri Lankan army had intervened in the matter on behalf of the drivers by arresting three members of the PLOTE who were in the office at the time.

But Police sources said that there is evidence that the auto-rickshaw driver has been taken away by the PLOTE to Vavuniya.

They said that the exact reason for the abduction is not yet known.
