LTTE, trade unions to hold May Day in Batticaloa

Trade unions, public organizations and the Liberation Tigers in the Batticaloa district will jointly hold the May Day at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kaluthavalai public sports grounds, 22 km south of Batticaloa town, sources said.
Three separate processions will start from Valaichenai, Batticaloa town and Kaluwanchikudy and converge on the Kaluthavalai grounds for the May Day meeting, the sources said. Mr. S. Jeyananthamoorthy, the TNA MP for Batticaloa will lead the procession from Valaichenai. Mr. Joseph Pararajasingham, the national list TNA MP, and Ms. Thangeswary Kathiraman, another TNA MP from Batticaloa, will lead the procession from Batticaloa town. Mr. T. Kanagasabai, the lead TNA MP from Batticaloa, will lead the procession from Kaluwanchikudy. Mr. P. Ariyanethiran, the TNA candidate with the 5th highest number of preferential votes in the Batticaloa district at the April 2 general elections, will lead another procession from Paduvankarai-Kokkadicholai. Public organizations will join the processions with banners and placards. The participants will emphasize the Tamil struggle for freedom, Tamil nationalism and Tamil homeland, in addition to highlighting the problems of the workers. Mr. Kanagasabai will preside over the May Day meeting, where many prominent members of the LTTE and trade unions are to speak, the sources said.
