A three member delegation of the All Ceylon Hindu Congress met the Indian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Shiv Shankar Menon this afternoon to draw the Indian government's attention to the indiscriminate arrests of Tamils , including Hindu priests in Colombo and in the north-east.
The delegation was led by Mr. Kandhaiah Neelakandan, the President of the Hindu Congress. The delegation told the High Commissioner that the problems of the Tamils remain unresolved although various governments have come to power in Sri Lanka and that India should bring pressure on the Sri Lankan government to resolve the Tamil question. The Hindu Congress team had also told the Indian HC that Tamils would be compelled to come over to India for their safety and security if there is no change in the current predicament in Sri Lanka. The All Ceylon Hindu Congress also sent a fax to the Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee urging him to take constructive steps to help the Sri Lankan Tamils achieve their legitimate aspirations.
