The Special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lankan Police in Ampara claimed today that its commandos had killed six Liberation Tigers in an ambush in the early hours of the morning today around 3 a.m.
The STF had set the ambush on the 3rd mile post on the Akkaraipattu - Ampara road at the point where groups of Liberation Tigers from the Batticaloa cross to reach the Kanjikudichcha Aaru jungles, in the south-east of the Amparai district. The STF had received precise information from a person who had surrendered two weeks ago about the positions of the Liberation Tigers in the Kanjikudichcha Aaru area and about the interior route taken by them to walk from Palugamam, south of Batticaloa, to the southeastern parts of the Ampara district, said police sources. The STF said that the bodies are at its camp in Akkaraipattu and are to be handed over to the ICRC this evening.
