Director of Vavuniya Ayurvedic Hospital, Dr.Varnakulendran, urged Vanni Parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan to take the necessary action to improve the inadequate medical and residential facilites that are currently adversely impacting the dispensation of effective medical services to general public, health officials in Vavuniya said.
Dr.Varnakulendran told the MP that more than one thousand patients attend for various medical treatment every day and the hospital staff are stretched to limits in meeting this demand. "Only three doctors work at the Hospital. One other doctor is scheduled to join the staff soon. We need addtional residential facilities, additional staff and a new laboratory to do small scale experiments to help identify and alleviate medical conditions that are local to our community," Dr.Varnakulendran told the MP. Mr.Adaikalanathn promised the hospital staff that he will inform the Minister of Health immediately of the dire need and will followup on his request to ensure that the required assistance is delivered to the Ayurvedic Hospital.
