Tamil parliamentarians to debate Kandapola incident with black bands

Tamil parliamentarians irrespective of party affiliations would attend parliament wearing black bands on their arms when the adjournment motion on the Kandapola incident is debated Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Two were killed and several wounded when Police opened fire on Tamil estate workers in the hill country town last month.
Tamil politicians and trade union leaders say the Police acted in a very partial manner in support of Sinhala mobs that burnt and looted Tamil businesses in the town. Three-hour debate on Kandapola incident will commence at 10 a.m Wednesday when the parliament resumes sitting, Tamil MPs told TamilNet. The leader of the Upcountry Peoples Front and Nuwaraeliya electoral district parliamentarian Mr.Periayasamy Chandrasekaran will move the adjournment motion and it will be seconded by Colombo electoral district parliament Mr.Thiagarajah Maheswaran of the main opposition United National Party, sources said. Meanwhile Tamil parliamentarians have requested the Ceylon Workers Congress
(CWC) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to participate in the debate, sources said
