German Non-profit sponsors CTTU seminar

(FES), a German non-profit organization, Thursday morning inaugurated a two-day seminar on "Vision and Mission
of a Trade Union" in the conference hall of the Jaffna Zonal Education Office. The seminar is being organized by the Ceylon Tamil Teachers' Union (CTTU) in collaboration with Education International (EI) and FES.

Ms. Becker paid a visit to Jaffna Wednesday to attend this seminar. The visit was her first since she assumed duties as FES resident representative in Sri Lanka in November last year, sources said. In her keynote address, Ms. Becker made an appeal to CTTU to create awareness among its members regarding the globalization concept. She said the CTTU has a responsibility to remove the fear among its members that globalization would bring serious consequences later, sources said. Frederick Ebert Stiftung (FES) is a German non-profit, private education institution committed to the concepts and basic values of social democracy and the labour movement. In Sri Lanka, FES is working since 1965 in different fields such as media training, trade union co-operation and adult education programmes. Today the main fields of FES in Sri Lanka are, Non-violent conflict resolution, Good governance, Trade union co-operation, Gender related activities, Media training and media policy and South Asian co-operation The worldwide activities of FES include political and civil education in Germany and abroad, offices and programmes in more than 90 countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe, Eastern Europe and Middle East.
