The strike of the Jaffna University employees entered second day Tuesday
without any sign for a settlement. The administrative function of the university has been paralyzed for the second day due to the strike, sources said.
Jaffna uiversity employees union said that it would continue its trade union action until their demands are met,
sources said. Meanwhile the Jaffna University Administrative Officers' Union (JUAOU) in a
statement released Tuesday has criticized the organizers of the strike for
launching trade union action at a time when undergrads are about to sit for
their examinations. The statement appealed to the strikers to think of the education of about
6000 students of the university. "We are prepared to extend our support
for the employees to win their legitimate demands but not at the expense of
the education of students", said the statement of JUAOU.
