"LTTE losing confidence in peace process"- UNF

"The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) appears to be losing confidence on the peace process because of the contradictory stands taken by President Chandrika Kumaratunge," said the media spokesman of the main opposition, Professor G.L.Peiris, at a press briefing held Friday in Colombo, according to media sources.

"[The] President is a bundle of confusion on matters relating to the peace process. This was clearly demonstrated on the Interim Administration for the northeast when she met the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians (TNA) and in her address to the nation. She said one thing to TNA and another to the people of the country. She changed her views on the ISGA within 48 hours," said Mr.Peiris.

She told the TNA the interim administration would not be linked to the final solution to the ethnic conflict. But in her address to the nation she said the ISGA would be a part of the final solution, Professor Peiris said.

The LTTE leadership has now expressed their disappointment over the current stand of the President. LTTE leaders now appear to be losing confidence on the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government which is currently struggling for its survival in the parliament to prove its absolute majority, the UNF spokesman said.

He added that the UPFA government and the President had endangered the peace process by allowing internal contradictions within the government

"As far as the UNF is concerned, if there were a genuine peace process it would support it 100 percent," Professor Peiris stressed.
