Twenty thousand member strong Ceylon Tamil Teachers Union (CTTU) complained to Sri Lanka’s President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge that the Director of Pensions has been showing racial discrimination towards Tamil teachers in attending their pension related problems, sources said.
In a four-page letter to Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge, CTTU General Secretary
Mr.T.Mahasivam said that the Director of Pensions has been adopting a
chauvinistic approach in serving the Tamil teachers. "The Director of Pensions recently behaved in an uncivilized manner with
our administrative secretary Mr.S.Saravanabavananthan when he went to the
office of Department of Pension to sort out pension related problems of
some members of our union. The CTTU vehemently condemns the highhanded
action of the Director of Pensions against a trade union representative.
CTTU further requests to hold inquiry into the incident and to take
disciplinary action against the Director of Pension," Mr.Mahasivam said in
his letter to Ms.Chandrika Kumaratunge.
