First Black Tiger commemorated in Nelliyadi

The Liberation Tigers Monday observed Black Tigers' Day at the Nelliyadi Central College in Jaffna where on 5 July 1987, Capt. Miller, the first Black Tiger, drove an explosives filled truck on Sri Lanka army troops that were garrisoned in the school. Hundreds of people including parents of Black Tigers killed in the war took part in a procession from Nelliyadi Juntion to the Central College to mark the commemoration.

A float in the procession carried photos of Black Tigers killed in the war.

The Thamil Eelam national flag was hoisted at 5.30 p.m. by Mr. E. Thaya, the LTTE's political divison head for Vadamaradci.

Capt. Miller's mother garlanded his statue erected by the LTTE at the spot where his truck exploded. Then the head of LTTE's political division in Jaffna, Mr. C. Ilamparithi and the principal of the Nelliyadi Central College garlanded the first Black Tiger's statue.

Tamil National Alliance MPs for Jaffna, Mr. M.K Sivajilingam and Mr. N. Sivanesan garlanded the Black Tiger insignia near Capt. Miller's statue.

The event was followed by a public meeting and cultural programs to mark the day.
