US military intelligence team visits Palaly

A top US military intelligence team visited the sprawling Sri Lankan armed forces base of Palaly-Kankesanthurai in Jaffna for high level discussions on security and defence issues, according reports in the Tamil press Sunday.
The five member US military intelligence team inspected the Kankesanthurai naval harbour and the Palaly air force base on Friday, according to the Sunday edition of the Tamil daily 'Thinakkural'. Meanwhile, the Sunday edition of the Tamil daily Virakesari reported that the US military intelligence team had also visited Sri Lanka army camps in Mannar, Vavuniya, Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Quoting senior military officers at the Palaly headquarters, Thinakkural said that the US team had discussed the international support network of the Liberation Tigers, their electronic intelligence gathering capabilities, security of Sri Lanka's air fields and ports, weapons smuggling and other matters.
