Tamil police officers transferred from Mannar
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 27 July 2004, 17:12 GMT]
Vanni District Tamil National Parliamentarian Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan
Tuesday brought to the notice of the Sri Lanka's Inspector General of Police the
injustice in transferring four Tamil police officers out of eight
without any replacement, sources in Mannar said.
Mr.Adaikalanathan in a letter faxed to the IGP Mr.Indra de Silva
Tuesday said,
"It is unfair by the Police Headquarters to reduce the number of Tamil
police personnel from Mannar which has 100 percent Tamil speaking
population. The SL Government instead make efforts to increase the number of Tamil police officers to more than
eight. "I am unable to understand how the Mannar Police Station can manage recording statements in Tamil." Mr.Adaikalanathan further said the Tamil people in Mannar will
lose confidence in the police, and avoid going to the police station if
more Sinhalese police personnel are posted. Mr.Adaikalanathan requested the IGP to cancel the transfer of Tamil
officers immediately.
